This programme promises an explosion of colour and character for all the family, from Strauss’s vaulting portrait of the Iothario Don Juan to Grieg’s heroic piano concerto and to the spangled exoticism of Stravinsky’s fairy-tale ballet The Firebird - one of Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú Ten Pieces. In between comes Sibelius’s brooding, atmospheric tone- poem En Saga, which he said contained ‘the whole of my youth’. He asked ‘ can one think of anything other than Finland while listening to it?’ The acclaimed young Spanish virtuoso Javier Perianes, described as ‘a poet at the keyboard’, joins Sakari Oramo in Grieg’s famous concerto.

A family-friendly workshop which introduces the music of the evening's concert. Suitable for newcomers and music fans alike. If you play an instrument, bring it along as there will be an opportunity for you to join in.
