We step into Cinderella鈥檚 enchanted world. Fairy tales are, by default, bittersweet. Our princess-in-waiting meets the steely glint of Prokofiev鈥檚 music in one of the most dazzling ballet scores ever written. Stories don鈥檛 always go in one direction as we鈥檒l find out in, Concentric Paths, a violin concerto by Thomas Ad猫s, a musical ellipsis 鈥� it orbits, restless and haunting. Tonight鈥檚 soloist is Christian Tetzlaff, one of the world鈥檚 most exciting violinists, and the synergy between composer and violinist promises to be spellbinding. Meanwhile,
Dmitri Shostakovich wrote some of the 20th century鈥檚 most passionate and colourful music and our Chief Conductor John Storg氓rds opens the book on Shostakovich鈥檚 world of pain and parody. Even the youthful First Symphony is a tragicomedy 鈥� no spoilers but expect a rollercoaster ride.
