Concert Information

Andrew Carwood, Director of Music at St Paul's Cathedral, conducts the 麻豆官网首页入口 Singers in 17th-century English polychoral music by Tomkins, Gibbons and Peter Philips, as well as examples from our own time by John Tavener and Sally Beamish.

Polychoral music, or music for two choirs, is particularly associated with the St Mark's Basilica in Venice where - it's said - the practice of placing choirs and other musicians in separate galleries in the building from the 16th century onwards led to a fashion for this sort of music which spread throughout Europe.

Completing the concert, the great Latin setting of the Magnificat for double choir by Charles Stanford - a glorious, and rarely-performed choral showpiece for unaccompanied voices.

Admission is on a first-come, first-served basis. Please note that as not everyone who asks for tickets uses them, to make sure we have a full house we send out more tickets than there are places. We do our best to get the numbers right, but unfortunately we occasionally have to disappoint people so please arrive early.
