A great American orchestra marks Leonard Bernstein鈥檚 100th-anniversary year with a concert of 20th century American classics that represent Bernstein in his multiple guises as composer, conductor and pianist.

The breathless exuberance of Bernstein鈥檚 Candide overture is extended by Inon Barnatan in Gershwin鈥檚 Concerto in F major, which filters the composer鈥檚 popular jazz idiom through classical structures and Lisztian virtuosity.

Premiered by Bernstein and the New York Philharmonic in 1951, Ives鈥檚 attractive Second Symphony melds European techniques with an all-American sound-world.
