Mozart and Bart贸k
19:30 Thu 9 May 2019 St David's Hall, Cardiff
A dark and intense programme is spearheaded by Coriolan鈥檚 call to revolt, with Bart贸k and Mozart sustaining the momentum with taut, brooding works.

Programme

Mozart and Bart贸k

*We are sorry to announce that Luk谩拧 Vondr谩膷ek is unable to perform with us in Cardiff and Swansea next week. We are very grateful to Ll欧r Williams for stepping in at short notice to perform Bartok鈥檚 Piano Concerto No. 3. The rest of the programme remains unchanged.

Beethoven and Bart贸k match each other in visceral energy in the first half. Beethoven鈥檚 overture is driven by the internal conflict and grand struggle of its Shakespearean hero, while Bart贸k, undimmed by illness and exile, displays his passion for his homeland and the Old World. Mozart brings the power of his operatic writing to his penultimate symphony, a masterclass in tension and release.

We are sorry to announce that Xian Zhang has withdrawn from this performance due to personal reasons. We are delighted to announce that Jac van Steen will now conduct this concert
