Handel's Messiah
Handel's Messiah
Surely the most popular and frequently-performed choral work in the entire repertoire: Handel's Messiah has grown in popularity ever since its first performance in 1741 - composed, a white-hot burst of inspiration, in just 24 days.
The piece re-tells the prophecies of Christ's coming, his birth in the Bethlehem stable, his death and resurrection, and, finally, the Day of Judgement with such power, passion and expressive warmth that its music has become amongst the best-loved of all time.
Tonight's performance, in one of London's most atmospheric and historic churches, brings together a leading period-instrument orchestra with the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú Singers and a brilliant team of soloists.
