From his earliest recordings with his group Roxy Music at the beginning of the 1970s Bryan Ferry has taken his place as one of the most iconic and innovative singers and lyricists to emerge in popular music.
Born in Washington, County Durham, Bryan studied Fine Art at the University of Newcastle and later at the Royal College of Art in London. Whilst in London he began writing the songs which would be recorded on the first Roxy Music album, and recruiting the other members of the group. Roxy Music went on to have three number one albums and ten top ten singles in the UK chart.
In 1973 Ferry began his solo career and released three albums over the decade. After Roxy Music disbanded in 1982 Bryan released his sixth solo album, Boys and Girls, in 1985. The album reached number one in the UK, his first and only solo recording to do so, and also became his biggest selling album in the US.
Since then Ferry has continued to perform and record both with Roxy Music and as a solo artist. In June 2011 Ferry was made a CBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours for his contribution to the British music industry and at the end of 2012 he released a new album, ‘The Jazz Age’ with the Bryan Ferry Orchestra which he has been touring throughout 2013.
