Chief Conductor Sofi Jeannin celebrates the work of one of England鈥檚 finest composers, Henry Purcell. At the heart of the programme is a concert performance of his opera, Dido and Aeneas, world-famous for Dido鈥檚 powerful and emotional lament, which comes at the work's heart-rending climax. Alongside this landmark work of the Baroque era are three of the composer鈥檚 most beloved sacred works 鈥 Rejoice in the Lord always, known as the Bell Anthem, performed with two pieces written for the Coronation of King James II at Westminster Abbey in 1685.
