Tonight is all about stories of the human spirit. Buddhist writings inspired our Composer in Association, Anna Clyne to write This Moment. This UK premiere is a meditation on the words of Zen Master and peace activist Th铆ch Nh岷 H岷h; 鈥榯his moment is full of wonders.鈥�

Dmitri Shostakovich鈥檚 second cello concerto looks back on a life lived through oppression. A reflective mood with a double shot of black humour, Shostakovich continually finds light amongst the dark.

The story of a hero rounds off our concert. Thrilling and ardent, Ein Heldenleben or 鈥楢 Hero鈥檚 Life鈥� is the musical autobiography of Richard Strauss. It鈥檚 the ride of his life and he鈥檚 taking us all with him. 鈥楢 Hero's Life鈥� has enough power to heat The Bridgewater Hall on a cold evening.
