Concert Information
鈥楾he greatest symphony since Beethoven,鈥 reckoned William Walton of Vaughan Williams鈥 Fourth 鈥 fierce, earthy and compelling music, brought to vivid life tonight by Sir Andrew Davis as we continue our joint celebration with the Hall茅 of 150 years since the composer鈥檚 birth. A soaring setting of Walt Whitman鈥檚 journey into the eternal beyond presents a very different side to Vaughan Williams 鈥 as does the dramatic yet balletic sweep of Job: A Masque for Dancing, a masterful interpretation of the battle between God and Satan as viewed through the prism of the servant who never quite lost his faith.
*This concert is part of Toward the Unknown Region 鈥 RVW150.
To mark the 150th anniversary of the birth of one of England鈥檚 greatest composers, Ralph Vaughan Williams, we join forces with the Hall茅 to present a complete symphonic cycle. Scroll down to find out more.*
