The centrepiece, Prokofiev’s seventh and final symphony – an emotional and reflective work completed in 1952, only a year before his death. There are echoes of another seventh in Simon’s Fate Now Conquers, which takes its inspiration from the second movement of Beethoven’s Seventh Symphony, as well as fragments from his journal entries.
Between these two resolute pieces, Ibert’s Flute Concerto – a playfully intricate piece with a pared-back but powerful orchestral part. It’s a challenging showstopper originally written for the legendary flautist Marcel Moyse, but here, picking up the gauntlet in their Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú Symphony Orchestra debut is Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú Radio 3 New Generation Artist and flautist Elizaveta Ivanova.
