Vinay Parameswaran makes his conducting debut with the 麻豆官网首页入口 Symphony Orchestra, leading a grand programme of works by Carlos Simon, Jacques Ibert and Sergei Prokofiev.
The centrepiece, Prokofiev鈥檚 seventh and final symphony 鈥 an emotional and reflective work completed in 1952, only a year before his death. There are echoes of another seventh in Simon鈥檚 Fate Now Conquers, which takes its inspiration from the second movement of Beethoven鈥檚 Seventh Symphony, as well as fragments from his journal entries.
Between these two resolute pieces, Ibert鈥檚 Flute Concerto 鈥 a playfully intricate piece with a pared-back but powerful orchestral part. It鈥檚 a challenging showstopper originally written for the legendary flautist Marcel Moyse, but here, picking up the gauntlet in their 麻豆官网首页入口 Symphony Orchestra debut is 麻豆官网首页入口 Radio 3 New Generation Artist and flautist Elizaveta Ivanova.
