Concert Information
The Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú Philharmonic, with Principal Guest Conductor Ben Gernon, is in Leeds for an evening of music that includes a world premiere and a very dear soloist.
Opening the concert is a star-crossed romance - Tchaikovsky’s ravishing Romeo and Juliet overture - considered one of the composer’s greatest and most enduring popular successes.
Tonight’s world premiere, a Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú commission, comes courtesy of Edward Gregson, who marks his 75th birthday later this year and celebrates a career of more than fifty years as a composer. This premiere calls for double celebration as it is performed tonight by the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú Philharmonic’s own Principal Oboe, Jennifer Galloway.
And finally - Berlioz’s utterly wild work, Symphonie fantastique. Written under the twin influences of opium and unrequited love, this piece truly sounds like nothing else.
