Join us on a thoroughly enjoyable journey through Vaughan Williams鈥� sublime evocation of a lark soaring skywards and his jaunty, folk-inspired Wasps Overture. Britten鈥檚 Soir茅es Musicales is a delightful set of miniatures inspired by Rossini, while Walton鈥檚 Crown Imperial was commissioned for the coronation of King George VI in Westminster Abbey. In the second half you have a rare chance to hear Arthur Bliss鈥檚 fantastic chess-inspired ballet score, commissioned by Sadler鈥檚 Wells and premiered at the Th茅芒tre des Champs-脡lys茅es, Paris in 1937.
