Programme

Concert Information

Tonight’s programme opens with Wagner’s lush and romantic Prelude to his opera Tristan and Isolde.

Recognised as one the most charismatic cellists of his generation, former Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú New Generation Artist Leonard Elschenbroich then joins the orchestra for Dvořák’s Cello Concerto.

The curtain falls on this evening with Elgar's Falstaff, a portrait of ‘a goodly, portly man… of a cheerful look, a pleasing eye and a most noble carriage’, as Shakespeare put it, and Elgar paints a similarly vivid picture of the fat knight in his witty, stirring masterpiece.
