Jackie Chan stars in this highly enjoyable film that confirmed him as a star in the East and is also one of his personal favourites.
Previously restricted to horrible VHS releases, the film is given a whole new lease of life with this re-mastered DVD. There are signs of print damage and some slight grain but overall the picture is filled with strong colours. Daylight scenes like those in chapter 18 are clear and natural.
The disc comes with a number of extras, some of which (like the interview with producer Ng See Yeun, and Jang Lee Hwang kicking showcase) are on the "Snake in the Eagle's Shadow" DVD. Otherwise, you get the original trailer, UK music promo, a rare deleted scene, and a profile of director Yeun Woo-Ping.
Chapters to look out for include number eight featuring Jackie's 'five-hour horse stance' where he squats over a wooden spike while balancing cups of water on his body, and the training sequences in chapter 12 where he gets thrown around by the venerable Siu Tien Yuen.
All of this is wrapped up with an animated menu system that's clear and easy to navigate around.
