Perdita Durango (Perez) is a woman who lives right on the edge until she meets the demonic Romeo (Bardem) who takes her right over it in a torrid spree. It's another road movie but it's a sweltering, quirky, and alluringly dark tale of crime and passion that burns on DVD.
Anyone familiar with director 脕lex De La Iglesia's "Accion Mutante" will be aware of his highly visceral style which uses warm colours that glow on this DVD. Right from the moody opening bedroom shot of a prowling leopard and an equally naked Rosie Perez, the screen is filled with sensual orange, yellow, and brown tones. This colour scheme remains sharp and pleasingly grain-free throughout the film. Disappointingly though the movie is not presented in widescreen.
Nevertheless you do get a Simon Boswell music score, who with a pedigree of films like "Hardware" and the 80s 'giallo' film "Stage Fight", adds an extra bizarre layer to the proceedings. His music creeps from the centre to the rears very pleasingly in an otherwise unremarkable 2.0 sound score.
Featuring director Alex Cox of "Repo Man" fame and James Gandolfini from "The Sopranos", you'll undoubtedly appreciate the highly detailed biographies that come on this disc.
