Michael Douglas has lived a complex life. He's gone through a marriage breakup and is a self-confessed sex addict, not to mention his father being one of Hollywood's best known actors. Recently in the headlines for his new baby and wedding, it hits home how long he has been a Hollywood name.
Douglas started his career working on his father's films as an assistant director in the 60s. He in a few youth dramas, but got his big break in the TV cop drama "The Streets of San Francisco".
His first notable success was as an executive producer on "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" (1975), where he shared a Best Picture Oscar with Saul Zaentz. He continued producing into the 1980s, mixing this with occasional acting roles until the part of Jack Colton in "Romancing the Stone", made him an A-list star. This was followed by films such as "Fatal Attraction", and "Wall Street" (for which he won a Best Actor Oscar). In both of these films he played an affluent, arrogant character, a type that he has returned to since in "The Game" and "A Perfect Murder".
Other notable films of Douglas' career include "Basic Instinct", "The American President", "Falling Down" and the acclaimed "Wonder Boys", in which he plays a middle-aged professor. His father made almost 80 films during his career; at this point Douglas has done just under 30. If he carries on the family tradition, we are likely to see a lot more of Michael Douglas.
