The highly stylised "Blood Simple" is a film that's begging for a quality release after some less-than-pleasing video outings. Unfortunately, the new DVD is little better.
Minimum effort seems to have gone into a transfer that's both panned and scanned, and often little better than the VHS version. The picture quality is at times as lurid as star Dan Hedaya, with murky grain spoiling the many night scenes.
The sound is confined to the centre speaker but separates the music and dialogue quite well.
The only extras are a trailer for the film and one for "The Big Lebowski". Given that this disc is aimed at Coen Brothers fans, it's unlikely to please any of them.
