Armour of God DVD (1987)

"Armour of God" was one of Jackie Chan's highest grossing international hits during the 80s, as well as doing big business in the UK video market. It's a ridiculously enjoyable film, filled with lethal stunts now remastered to perfection on a stunning DVD.

Hong Kong Legends have yet to release a DVD that is short of impressive. This latest disc boasts a longer Asian version of the movie, in widescreen, that has been digitally restored from original prints. Or let's put it this way, this movie didn't look as good when it came out as it does now. For anyone that bought or rented Jackie Chan films in the 80s, you'll be nothing short of amazed at the quality on offer here.

In fact if you had a penchant for Kung Fu videos, you considered yourself lucky if you could even make out the dialogue. The new 5.1 sound mix then might be a little bit of a shock to some. You're better off selecting the Cantonese version so as to dispense with the naff English dub. And then you can sit back and enjoy the numerous effects on offer.

If you discovered Jackie as a result of "Rush Hour" and want to know more about his past, then you'll find plenty of interest in the comprehensive biography on the disc. Also included is the original (four-minute!) trailer and a short interview with Jackie Chan and his manager, Willie Chan. The latter is a new offering and covers a failed stunt where Jackie nearly died. Along with the animated menus, this adds up to an impressive achievement, and a must-have disc for JC fans.
