The Quiet Man DVD (1952)

"The Quiet Man" remains as romantic and enjoyable as when it originally came out. It's certainly well worth revisiting on this solid DVD release.

The cinematography won an Oscar in 1952 and it's not hard to see why. Filmed against real Irish backdrops, the Technicolor stock brings out the lush countryside colours in the most vivid fashion. Such intense hues can present a problem for some DVDs, but the picture on this disc is very fresh. Additionally the source print is in good shape too.

The sound comes in a 2.0 mix that sticks to the centre speaker. It's a clear effort and copes well with the amount of blarney thrown at it!

Extra features on the disc include the original trailer and a small photo gallery, but the film itself is enough reason to buy this DVD, especially when it looks as good as it does.
