"Born Invincible" is one of two DVD releases from the new Kung Fu Connection label. The other is "Shaolin vs Lama" and both are forerunners to a range of rare Hong Kong films long since thought lost.
Such is the obscurity of these films that the available prints are very tired. "Born Invincible" suffers from plenty of scratches, but a good remastering job has brightened up the colours and sharpened what was previously nearly unwatchable. Just take a look at the un-mastered trailer on the disc to see the difference. Boasting action choreography from Yuen Woo Ping (action director on "The Matrix" and "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon"), there's some frenetic martial arts on offer here.
Sound quality is average. The dubbing is often quite hysterical, but the track is still clearer than many old Kung Fu videos that some of us tortured ourselves with during the 1980s.
Like it companion release "Shaolin vs Lama", your only extra is the trailer but the budget price of the disc should appeal to martial arts fans.
