Raising Arizona DVD (1987)

Nicolas Cage steals a baby in a Coen brothers comedy that's woven out of deliciously loopy characters. Fans of the Coens may be disappointed that they don't get a DVD with any extras (bar a trailer), but this is still a winning disc.

Apart from the odd speck on the print and a fine grain lurking in some of the darker scenes, this is still an impressive transfer to DVD. Cinematographer Barry Sonnenfeld has shot a glossy, slick film that looks lovely on disc, with bright colours and a clean image reveal just what a good job he did.

The 2.0 surround mix is a lively affair that's not afraid of some rear action, especially during the wilder pyrotechnic moments.

Extra features? Well, we discussed the lack of them, but this is a movie that was starting to look mighty tired on subsequent VHS releases, while it looks all fresh and lovely on DVD.
