The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 DVD (1986)

'The Buzz is back' screamed the posters for the sequel that we never got to see back in the 80s. Long before Wes Craven gave us "Scream", Tobe Hooper was turning the slasher genre on its head with "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2", which now comes to us on a slightly disappointing DVD.

The problem lies with the picture transfer, which is not anamorphic (a process which carries extra coding to create a more detailed picture on a widescreen TV). This means that all those scenes in the warren of caves look grainy and lack detail. It's not a disaster, but why not just do the job properly?

As with most Cannon films, this movie was recorded in Ultra Stereo, which often works a treat in Dolby surround, as with this DVD. Once you've heard Dennis Hopper wailing hymns while brandishing a chainsaw in your rear speakers, you'll understand why surround sound was invented.

Extra features? Just a trailer, which is a shame, as Tobe Hooper must have a good commentary in him for one of his many Cannon flicks.
