Get Writing with The Canterbury Tales is the first phase of a three year project to inspire people, through 麻豆官网首页入口 drama and entertainment programmes, to discover and develop their creative talents.

A large selection of submitted stories will be published on the 麻豆官网首页入口i site and five will then be chosen to be developed and produced for Radio 4鈥檚 Afternoon Readings slot to be read by members of the cast.

Some stories will also be featured on 麻豆官网首页入口 local radio stations.

As part of the initiative twelve creative writing events are being held across the country during September and October.

In the Midlands, the writing event takes place at the Birmingham Rep Theatre in Broad Street on Saturday 4 October at 11am.

It will be chaired by 麻豆官网首页入口 WM鈥檚 Adrian Goldberg and he鈥檒l be joined by Olivia Hetreed, one of the script writers for the 麻豆官网首页入口 series Canterbury Tales, and local author Mike Thomas.

New talent

Adrian Goldberg, says: "Chaucer鈥檚 classic tales are full of life and mirror the issues and ideas of present day society.

"We want people to be inspired by these films and encouraged to develop their creative writing skills by having a go at writing their own stories about life in contemporary Britain.

"We鈥檙e lucky to have Olivia joining us at the Birmingham event too - a talented writer, she鈥橪L be able to pass on some top tips to everyone there."

Tickets for the event are free but early booking is advisable.

Tickets are available from the Rep on 0121 236 4455 (minicom 0121 245 2025).

The competition is open to all writing beginners over 16 who have never been published or had work broadcast on the 麻豆官网首页入口.
