I remember all the air raids during the war. One Wednesday morning the bombers went across the BAWA Club and on to Filton where they hit the shelters. I was only 13. I was in the Home Guard on Eastfiled Road, Westbury, Q.E.H. Grounds) and they had six 3.7 AAC and we used two of these and the regular army used four.

I was in Reading at the time of the celebrations for VJ day.

When you were in the cinema, news of a raid came on the screen and big fire shutters came down. Then you could leave or not as you pleased.

On the above Wednesday, when we came home from school, a couple of houses nearby had been bombed and we couldn't go home. we had to go to our gran's.
