I was five when war broke out. I lived in Sheerness with me dad and mum and sister. Georgina was 12. She was sent to Wales as an evacuee. I was left at home.
One Saturday around midday there was a dogfight between a Spitfire and an Italian over our heads and I was on the allotment with Dad. There were bullets going everywhere so Dad threw me down onto the ground near the shed to protect me. As it cleared we saw bombs coming down over Westminster Gasometer and one landed in the mud. My dad went out to get it. He picked it up and brought it back home, cleaned it up and kept it!
