My brother came home from the war on VJ day. He had been wounded some months earlier whilst fighting abroad. He had a piece of shrapnel in his lung, but by the time he arrived home the wound had healed over, embedding the shrapnel in his lung. He spent over four years in Killingbeck Sanatorium but although he was ill for the rest of his life he did live until a few years ago.
