This story was told to Christine Barker at The Beverley V.E. Celebration day in 2005 by the wife of the late Captain Leo Cohen and relates to his time in Normandy.

Captain Cohen was an Artillery Officer in General Pattern鈥檚 Army and landed on Omaha beach. His Battalion supported the Artillery and he fought through the whole campaign. During this time Capt. Cohen was wounded as he rescued a soldier under fire. Later he was presented with the Brand Star for Valour and went on to become an Army careers officer, retiring in 1956 as a full Colonel. He died in 2003 and is buried in the Arlington National Park, a cemetery which has been set aside to honour and remember the Nation鈥檚 war heroes.
