I was walking down the Coleraine Road to Portstewart when I was young and I didn鈥檛 really know the right direction to take. I saw a police man coming along on his bicycle and he stopped and the first thing he said was could he see my identification card. Even in school days you had to have an identification card. I was annoyed that he had asked me this at such a young age as if I was a spy or something. Lucky enough I had my card on me.

I saw Eisenhower on the corner of Chichester Street in Belfast. They were heading towards the docks and Eisenhower came ahead of them. All the soldiers stopped and came to attention. He was the supreme commander. At that time I think the Americans were heading to France from Belfast docks. There was about a half dozen big lorries full of soldiers.
