This story was submitted to the People's War site by Louise Angell of the CSV Action desk at 麻豆官网首页入口 Radio Derby, on behalf of Eileen Woodcock. The author fully understands the sites terms and conditions.

I was 4 at the beginning of the war. My most vivid memory is sitting in a park in Long Eaton watching the search lights cross the sky. Hearing the sirens and having to go into the street shelters. They were very dark and narrow and placed at intervals down the street.

I know dad went out on home guard duty. We had a bed made up under the the table, I suppose for extra protection. we were fortunate and had no real problems during the war.

I also remember identity cards and ration books and coupons for sweets and clothes.
