I lived with my mother and two sisters in London during the war. We dug out our Anderson shelter. We felt quite safe in it when the air raids were on, and slept quite well in it.

One night my mtoher was not well and had been in bed all day, so when the warning went my sisters and I told mum to stay put, and we woudl stand watch in the garden.

We didn't have tin hats to put on so we both got a saucepan to put on our heads but everytime we turned round we caught each other with the handle. In the end we had to get her in the shelter, and thank goodness all ended well.
