Wednesday,9th.May,1945.
Our card game continued, as first one
group and then the other left us to board
their plane. Was it callousnes ,lack of
feeling or just fatalism that caused us to
only glance away from our card game ,when we heard and saw an aircraft crash at the end of its takeoff . At 1345 hours we were
requested to walk across the runway to an
awaiting Lancaster bomber,which had been
adapted to carry a load of passengers. It was
a great sight! We received some sweets as we
piled aboard the plane. We took off from
Germansoil at 14.00 hours.It was a fairly
comfortable journey in the circumstances. I
tried to read some newspapers. We reached
British soil at 16.00 hours .
