I was born in Enfield (N London) in 1943 and, in addition to the ubiquitous Anderson Shelter we had a Morrison Shelter in the house. In the cold weather I was placed in this shelter at night in a suit comprising body suit and gas mask.

It was just as well we had these precautions since we lived near the Royal Ordnace Factory.

What I want to know is:- OK, the Morrison shelter was supposed withstand the weight of the house in case of a nearby "hit" but (even my father couldn't answer this one) - how could we breath ?!!!

Does anyone have any information about Morrison shelters. Comments welcome at Grahamhjones@onetel.com

Regards to all

Graham
