I joined the RAF in 1943 and was trained as a radar operator and heavy vehicle driver. I was stationed on radar stations along the south coast of England before being posted to India. On arrival at Bombay I became very ill with Dysentry and sent some time in hospital and missed a posting to the Burma border. On discharge from hospital I was posted to 225 Group Bangalore, Southern India, then another posting to a remote radar station in the Bay of Bengal. This station was built to scan the air for possible Japanese aircraft invading Indian air space. I returned to England in December 1946.
