I can remember my mother queing at the butchers 3 times, only to come away with a pound of sausages. My sister was in the Land army and her allowance of cheese was more than everyone elses. Luckily for us she didn't like cheese so we got to eat it instead.

I have never forgotten the feeling when we heard that the war was over. Even during the darkest times I never thought we would loose.

Rationing went on for some time after the war. one of the best thing I ever tasted was a jar of peanut butter given to us by an American soldier. When eggs came off ration my mother bought 3 dozen and stacked them up in a dish on the dresser. She was so amazed to see eggs again.
