This story was submitted to the People鈥檚 War site by Allan Price on behalf of Eileen Bray and has been added to the site with her permission. The author fully understands the site's terms and conditions.

Originally my family all came from Plymouth. Every night during the war were had to sleep in our Anderson shelter, because the bombing of the town was almost constant.

Because of this, when I was six years old, we decided to move up to Rosyth. I always think we were lucky to survive the heavy bombing that happened at that time in Plymouth.

I always remember my dad liked a cigarette. The air raid wardens were always shouting at him when he lit up - "get that light out!".

One of my other wartime memories is parachute silk. I loved collecting it. I always thought it was special because it came from the sky!

After the war we stayed in Scotland.
