When I was a little girl I remember seeing the soldiers marching up the Bassingham Road in Navenby. They built a bridge over the River Brant. We weren't allowed to go down there and we didn't. The soldiers used to come and sleep in the cow and horse sheds. I think they might have been based at Beckingham.

The soldiers used to bring us tins of meat and other food and my mum said we weren't to say anthing about it to anyone.

We had Land Army girls on the farm. At one time we had four and they lived at Bassingham. Whenever my mum and dad went off to market, they would sneak off to go and meet the airmen.
