I was evacuated from Derby to Chesterfield at the age of nine, we were not really welcome at the first placing and were moved to a family who were market garderners. Although we had to do our share of the work around the small holding we enjoyed our life there. This family was rather relgious and it through this family that I was confirmed. As material was in short supply my confirmation dress was made from a material flour sack and my headress from a net cutain removed from the door for the occasion. When it was time for us to return home the lady wanted me to stay with her this was not really possible but I kept in touch for many years after and the faith I learnt from her has stayed with me for all of my life.
