I was 14 years old, and at school at the time. The crews of the air-sea rescue boats at Birkhead harbour were billeted in the local area. They were attached to Kinloss, there to rescue planes coming back to the airfield.

I remember seeing a plane going down on the sands. My friends and I ran down to see. The rescue got as much off the plane before the tide came in.

I also remember the training for D-Day. A lot of it was done on the beaches round my area. There were land and sea 鈥渄ucks鈥. We saw troops attacking and defending positions. I remember 6 trains full of troops left for D-Day.
