We woke up one morning to the milkman knocking on the door. He was seeking accomodation for evacuees who had come from London and had nowhere to stay. There were several families but we only lived in very small houses in Underwood Rd, so we were doubful whether we could help. However all the neighbours rallied round and we found room for them all.The family who came to live with us consisted of Mother and 2 children - a boy and a girl. We then had to go round begging for nappies and food etc. I am happy to say that we are still friends with the children, one living in Margate, the other in Wales.
Another memory is after the blitz when we had no water but a very kind lady in nearby Scarsdale Rd opened her kitchen for us all to fill our buckets, she deserves a medal.
