Food rationing was difficult, living on basic nessecaties and little luxuries. A friend of ours had a farm who gave our family extra vegetables. This was against the law but feeding a family of nine is very difficult.

I remember Belfast being completely blacked out all the time due to the scare of being seen by German bombers and attacked. Dublin was neutral at this time so there were no black outs.

My sister was on leave so she didn't attend work one night. She worked in the isle of Wight on a radar tracking station.

My whole family had to go into the bomb shelter at the bottom of our garden for the night as the warning sirens went off.

On this night German bombers bombed Dublin missing Belfast and in the morning I found there had been a direct hit on the tracking station.
