THE FOLLOWING IS A TRANSCRIPTION OF AN INTERVIEW GIVEN BY JOAN AND STAN JARVIS, FROM THE ISLE OF SHEPPEY IN KENT, TO 麻豆官网首页入口 SOUTH EAST TODAY AS PART OF A TV SERIES MARKING THE ANNIVERSARY OF THE WAR'S END. THEY UNDERSTAND THE SITE'S TERMS AND CONDITIONS.
JOAN: "It happened to be D-Day, 6 June 1944. I should think it would have been about seven o'clock, because I was on duty at ten that night. At the Castle. Plotting ..."
(At Dover Castle, Joan Messenger plotted the paths of German planes. Kent was a dangerous place to be. But life went on ... )
STAN: There was a party of five of us -- two women, three men. I was the odd one out. We went to this party at the Dover Town Hall. And I went to this table where there were these ATS girls ...
JOAN: ... one desperate ...
STAN: ... I went up to the loveliest one. We danced. And we've been dancing ever since ...
JOAN: I just thought, he looks a nice lad, in that (Merchant Navy) uniform. It was the uniform that took me, truthfully.
STAN: From a man's point of view, there were ten men for every woman in Dover. So you knew you'd got quite a conquest.
JOAN: That was just "it", wasn't it, love?
STAN: Oh yes, mmm!
JOAN: Good!
(They kiss)
(STAN: There we are, pure passion!")
(STAN AND JOAN WERE MARRIED ON 28 JULY 1945. THEY HAVE THREE CHILDREN, AND STILL LIVE IN KENT.)
