I was at my sister's house in Granville Street, Clydebank, on Friday 13 March. She had asked me to watch her two-year-old son as she and her husband were going to the Glasgow Empire on Saturday 14th. I was there to tell them that it would be all right.

The siren sounded around 9pm that night. Granville Street had flats on both sides and about midnight the ARP Warden told us to get out of the building and into a shelter. To get there, I had to pass bodies lying on some spare ground. We finally got to the air raid shelter.

After a while, the air raid warden and ambulance crew came in and took away a soldier with a baby in his arms. When we came out of the shelter, we saw the soldier with the baby in his arms lying dead. I eventually made my way home to Duntocher to find there was no water or electricity. We were evacuated to Drymen and put into a church hall for the night. Then we were housed in Denny.

Later on, the police called to say that we had to work at Singer's the next day for the war effort. It was too far to travel so my father went to Milngavie to friends and we managed to get housed there.
