I am a girl, writing about the story I was told by my Grand parents who told me how they hid in the forest, from the terrors of Second World War.
My grandma was just 10 when her and her family got chased out of their house and into the mountain that was behind her house not far away, she was terrified and confused of what was happening at the time and now that she thinks about it the more terrifying it was for her. They got chase to the mountains where they hid from the Japanese soldiers that invaded the town Parit and destroyed the town. My grandma hid in the forest living on tree roots, sweet potatoes and things that they found in the forest, They lived under a fallen down tree that they adapted with leaves to keep them cool and hidden from anyone who ventured through the forest. They tuned in with the radio that her brother grabbed and stuffed in his pocket before they left home, every day they would tune in and see what was happening and a sign that it was safe for them to come out. One day her mum woke her up and said that they could all go home as the Japanese had left the country. When they got back they could see their door way knocked down and others had been burnt. Other people had already begun to discover what state their houses were in. My grandma close behind her mum clutching on to her tightly walked into their deserted house dark and smashed glass was all over the floor all the valuables had been taken from the cabinets. I was devastating. From then on they began to recover from the attack and get on with normal life.
