I was about 11/12 years old. The soldiers used to come to Harlow Street, off Park Road, and diffuse time bombs. Then the people in the street would make a collection for the soldiers.

The school I went to, "Our Lady of Mount Carmel" was condemned when I came back from evacuation so I went to school in a house parlour for a time.
