We have talked to Lily, Muriel and Barbara and they all worked at Vickers shipyard in World War Two. Lily was 23 when the war ended now she is 83. "I worked and made ventilators and it was fun. Nobody was hurt in our place but I think some would get injured. You had to eat rations, and babies had orange juice. I was not frightened of the war. When you were new you got jokes played on you at Vickers."
I have tried to find out what happened to our ships. Was Vickers ever put on a red alert? "Yes, many times. Only two of my friends came back from the war. I lived in Haverigg."
Lily said she was a part time fire woman, she also said she did other part time jobs too.
Lily, Muriel and Barbara were great in our interview. Emma Pidduck and Daniel Smith
