I was 9 years old at the time of the Coventry blitz. We all slept in a downstairs room as a safety precaution.
One night we were awake listening to German bombers flying over our house during an air-raid. The velure lined curtains were drawn tightly over the windows.
Suddenly there was an enormous explosion and the room lit up like daylight by light coming solely round the top and sides of the thick curtains.
We heard later that a bomber was unable to find his Coventry target, and had dropped a landmine at random, landing over the fields from our house.Quite an experience !
