"This story was submitted to the People's War site by CSV/麻豆官网首页入口 Radio Nottingham on behalf of June Jones with her permission. The author fully understands the site's terms and conditions."

I remember the end of the War because I was the Victory Queen at the Douglas School on Ilkeston Road. It was so exciting to be dressed in lace and red, white and blue ribbons and even a crown. I was taken round to all the classrooms in my finery and we no longer had to carry our gas masks. I also remember with awe standing in the Market Square to see the lights of Nottingham switched on. To this day I think about it when walking through the square.
