I was four years old when it started and ten years old when it finished and I guess I must have pushed many of the memories far into my mind.
When I started to write and recall them they were painful as two of my little school friends were killed by bombs and some of my family. I have recalled things I thought I had forgotten, like my father saying goodbye to my mother with we three children clustered around during a particularly bad and prolonged air-raid.
My experience during the six years of my childhood have given me anxiety over the years and periods of intense sadness. For some people the past sadness experienced in their childhood is perhaps best left buried.
