(This story was submitted to the peoples war website by Simon, a pupil from Cedars Upper School, on behalf of 鈥淩osie鈥 at the Bedford VE/VJ commemorations and has been added to the site with her permission. 鈥淩osie鈥 fully understands the site鈥檚 terms and conditions).

My memories of the war are that food and clothes and even bicycles were rationed due to the war and U-boats bombing the ships out at sea. We lived off of the produce of the land :
Cassava, plantain, bananas, eddoes, yams, sweet potatoes, rice, barley, etc etc.

When the Americans joined the war soldiers were sent to help guard the country. The Americans were generous to the children and those in need.
